Uproar Records Releases Official 2010-2011 Artist Roster

Waco, TX (October 11, 2010) – Baylor University’s Uproar Records, now in its third year of operations, officially released its 2010-2011 artist roster today. The roster includes returning performers David Dulcie and the Ragtag Army, Zoo Studio, Brin Beaver and new artists Amy Boykin, K.J. Kenneth-Nwosa and Garrett Muston.

Jacob Voncannon, Uproar Entertainment and Music Group general manager, said the reason for postponing the release date, originally Oct. 1, was because of the overwhelming talent received at this year’s auditions. The executive committee decided to schedule interviews with a pool of six finalists in order to decide who would qualify.

“I am really looking forward to seeing these artists grow in musicianship and in their live performances,” Voncannon said. “With the new additions to the label we are trying to grow and diversify our roster. We hope to continue to improve Uproar year after year and grow the program at an aggressive rate.”

One of the new artists this year is Plano freshman Amy Boykin who first heard about Uproar at line camp when a student approached her after she performed at Common Grounds and asked her to join.

“I am really looking forward to playing with and meeting other awesome musicians, performing, and basically just being a part of a community of people who love music and want to share that with everyone,” Boykin said. “I am excited to grow as a musician too. I'm ready to learn a lot.”

Boykin described her musical style ranges from a “folksy, tap-your-foot type sound” to “jazzy and poppy”.

Adding a new sound to the usual singer/songwriter mix Uproar has had is K.J. Kenneth-Nwosa, who is Uproar’s first rap artist, Taylor Ashcraft, Uproar Records president, said.

“I am very excited and proud of our diverse line-up this year,” Ashcraft said. “We have never had a rapper before so I am very excited to work with K.J. He has a magnetic personality and will put on awesome live shows.”

Also on the list is former “Dear Eve” front man Garrett Muston, a returning artist from the first Uproar compilation album in 2009.

“I think the thing that set [Muston’s] band apart at auditions was how well rehearsed his band was,” Ashcraft said. “They have a nice, tight sound and it's obvious they've been practicing together for a while now.”

Both Voncannon and Ashcraft said they are looking forward to another great year.

“I was very impressed with the talent of Baylor students during auditions,” Ashcraft said. “This year I am most excited about watching our new and returning artists develop even more and build a fan base not just around Waco, but around Texas too.”
